Oedipus & Sphinx reproduction statue inspired by the work of the same name by Gustave Moreau. Measurements are 32cm/13 inches tall by 18cm/7 inches wide and made from solid bronze plated resin The story of Oedipus and Sphinx is about a sphinx who blocked a mountain path to the city of Thebes and posed riddles to travellers. If they could answer, they could pass. If they failed, they were torn to bits. Oedipustook the challenge. In Moreau's adaptation of the story as seen here we see Oedipus and the Sphinz locked eye to eye as she is almost pleading, awaiting for his answer. The sexual overtones here are intense and were left wondering if she really wants him to fail or succeed; and exactly who might be devouring whom. Our sculptures make superb Birthday gifts, retirement gift ideas and leaving presents or are also suitable as corporate gifts. |
